# Cadstrom Code of Conduct This Code of Conduct helps us build a community rooted in kindness, collaboration, and mutual respect. It applies to all Cadstrom users, and everyone using, building, or otherwise part of the Cadstrom community or a Cadstrom event on the platform or off the platform - including employees, officers, and directors. This code of conduct applies to behavior between community members, between employees, and between community members and employees (bidirectionally). Cadstrom is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, color, national origin, age, disability (physical or mental), sexual orientation, gender identity, parental status, relationship or marital status or structure, and political affiliation as well as gender expression, mental illness, socioeconomic status or background, neuro(a)typicality, or physical or digital appearance. We welcome all people regardless of level of education or experience in engineering, science, designing electronics, or making in general. ## Expected Behaviors **Welcome, be welcome, and be inclusive and respectful** Anyone can be a maker regardless of their experience, background, or identity. Welcome people into our community whether you are new to making or a seasoned expert. Seek to include people with your behavior while respecting their person, their time, and their background and make room for opinions other than your own. If you engage in a project, do so with goodwill towards them and their goals. **Be generous and kind in providing and receiving feedback** Feedback is a core part of collaboration in design. Good feedback can make a project vastly better, while poorly delivered feedback can have a profound negative impact on those receiving it. - When giving feedback, be humane and empathetic towards the person receiving it and their background, and be open to the fact that you may not have all the context or information. Comments like “this is dumb and is gonna explode” are unproductive and rude, while “the maximum current draw of U1 and L3 together could exceed the supply limits of the buck/boost converter” are positive and helpful. - When receiving feedback, recognize that everyone can benefit from feedback and be open to it. If you receive inapplicable feedback, move on. If you receive rude or negative feedback, block the user and/or report them to the Cadstrom moderation team. **Improve the discussion** Help make Cadstrom a great place for discussion by working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and if it needs to be said. **Share mindfully** When participating in discussion, share relevant information and context. Don’t share things that don’t add to the discussion, and be mindful when sharing links to your own projects or sites on others’ threads. When posting new content to Cadstrom, always ensure you own or have sufficient rights to do so. Don’t share designs you aren’t authorized to share, or personal or otherwise sensitive information belonging to you or others. You alone are responsible for what you post. **Treat others as they would like to be treated** Respect people's identities as they state them - use stated pronouns and names, and respect their wishes if they ask to be treated, addressed, or referred to in a certain way. Within the bounds of this code of conduct and the Cadstrom terms of service, everyone owns their profile space on Cadstrom and may choose what is appropriate within their space. ## Unacceptable behavior The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable in our community: - Violence, threads of violence or violent language directed against anyone inside or outside of the Cadstrom community. - Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability. - Bigotry of any kind - including sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory behavior, language, or jokes. - Gatekeeping - anyone can be a maker and anyone can build. We do not permit any form of gatekeeping. - Harassment - including but not limited to: bullying, intimidation, vulgar language, direct or indirect threats, sexually suggestive remarks, patterns of inappropriate social contact, and sustained disruptions of discussion. - Unwelcome attention - this includes comments, images, memes, or jokes, inappropriate touching, groping, and unwelcome advances. - Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in person). - Distributing, creating, or sharing projects, designs, or suggestions designed to cause harm or injury, including weapons or irresponsible and dangerous creations without suitable and appropriate safety considerations. ## Reporting Problems To report behavior that violates our code of conduct, or to provide feedback on the code of conduct, send an email to codeofconduct@cadstrom.com. Please include a description of the behavior and/or links if possible - you do not need to include your name or information if you don’t like, though it may be helpful if we need more information. This email address goes to Mike and James (our founders) directly. You may also individually contact Mike or James directly if your report is related to the other co-founder. ## Enforcement We take reports seriously. Those who don’t follow our Code of Conduct in good faith may face repercussions as deemed appropriate by our moderation team. In general, this is how we apply enforcement actions though in all cases we may apply our discretion and take other or more severe actions: 1. Warning - for many first time misconducts, we will provide a written warning and remove the content. 2. Account suspension - for repetitive misconduct or any harassment, bigotry, or abuse, we may apply a temporary account suspension for any length of time deemed necessary. 3. Account expulsion - where we deem appropriate we may permanently remove your account(s) and expel you from Cadstrom permanently. 4. Reporting to authorities - severe cases of harassment or any illegal activity can and will be reported to the relevant authorities. We have the right to apply enforcement measures as we deem appropriate, including for behavior not explicitly listed within our code of conduct but that we believe is not in the best interest of Cadstrom or the Cadstrom community. ## Acknowledgments This code of conduct builds on ideas and language from Stack Overflow, GitHub, and Buffer.
